Indicator Rationale

Whilst the workplace provides many benefits to employees economically and socially, employees need to be safe and feel safe in their workplace at all times.  Employers have a legal obligation to ensure that workers are not harmed in the course of the employment. Workplace incidents have both human and economic costs.  Unions, the community and employers all have a role in promoting a culture that places the highest value on workers’ health and safety and provide support for injured workers (Work Cover, Australia).
