Guide to Using the Wellbeing Map
The Wellbeing Map section of the CIV website is based on Instant Atlas geographic data visualisation software that has been customised for CIV data. A list and description of the page functions is provided below to assist you in navigating through this section of the website.
CIV recommends that you download and print the User Guide before your first visit to the Wellbeing Map.
Title
The title of a Wellbeing Map appears at the top of the page and lists the Indicator Title, the Measure Title and the Reference Period pertaining to the Measure.
Data Button
Click this button to display the indicators and measures available in map format in the Data Explorer.
Filter Button
Click this button to display the available filters in the Filter Explorer to select the regions.
Clear Button
Click this button to clear any geographic areas that have been selected.
Legend Button
Click this button to display the available legend types (first 9 types are available to use) and increase or decrease the numbers of classes.
Help Button
Click this button to access a help document.
Print Preview Button
Click this button to open print preview.
Print Button
Click this button to print screen.
Wellbeing Report Button
Click this button to open the Wellbeing Report page.
Data Explorer
The Data Explorer lists the indicators and measures with reference periods. Click the indicator title or a measure to expand or collapse the list available. Click a reference period to load a new data map.
Filter Explorer
Click this button to expand or collapse the areas presented. Clicking a filter value will filter the report to display the geographic areas selected.
The Map
Shading
Geographic areas are shaded according to the values or results for the indicator measure selected and can be altered using the Map Legend (see below).
Toolbar
Click the arrow to toggle the map toolbar. The buttons in the map toolbar allow the following functions: a fixed zoom in; fixed zoom out; enlarge or reduce the map size; or zoom to the original map size.
Area Selection
Click and drag a box on the map using your mouse. The map will zoom to the area within the box drawn.
Select a Geographic Feature
Click on a geographic area to select a feature. A selected geographic area will be shaded red.
The Chart
Shading
Bars: A bar is used to represent each geographic area listed in the data table. The height of the bars is proportional to the indicator values or indicator results. Bars are displayed in ascending order and shading is linked to the legend. Hold your mouse pointer over a bar to display a tooltip with the geographic area name and value).
Toolbar
Values for comparison geographies are shown using a horizontal line across the chart. You can hold your mouse pointer over the values on the chart and a tooltip will appear listing the geography’s name and value.
The Legend
Legend Options
The items available in the Legend menu may vary depending on the data in the report and the way the report has been configured. Standard options include the Continuous Legend Type, Quartile Legend Type, Equal Interval Legend Type and Standard Deviation Legend Type.
Number of Classes
You can increase or decrease the number of classes in the Legend by clicking the Increase or Decrease options in the Legend menu. CIV may limit the maximum number of classes for some measures.
Change Shading
You can change the shades used to shade geographic features in the map by clicking on a new palette.
Highlighting and Selecting
Hold your mouse pointer over a class in the legend to highlight the geographic area that fall into that class. Click a class to select the geographic area that fall within that class.
