DATA RELEASE NEWS - 5TH OF MARCH 2008  

Community Indicators Victoria is pleased to announce the release of data for a new CIV indicator as well as new data releases for a number of existing CIV indicators. 
 

New Indicators Included in CIV

·  Local Employment

This refers to the percentage of residents who live and work within the same Local Government Area.  Data has been derived from the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Census.
 

Updated Data Releases For Existing CIV Indicators

·  Apprenticeship and Vocational Training Enrolments

Minor revisions have been made to the 2006 data in accordance with the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Estimated Resident Population. Age and gender results have also been released for this indicator derived from the Office of Training and Tertiary Education Student Statistical Data Collection.
 
·  Crime
New 2006-07 financial year Victoria Police Crime Statistics have been released and weighted in accordance with the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Estimated Resident Population. Minor revisions have also been made to the 2004-05 and 2005-06 financial year releases based on the updated Australian Bureau of Statistics Estimated Resident Population series.
 
·  Family Violence
The Family Violence indicator has also been derived from Victoria Police Crime Statistics.  New 2006-07 financial year data have been released and weighted in accordance with the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Estimated Resident Population. Minor revisions have been made to the 2004-05 and 2005-06 financial year releases based on the updated Australian Bureau of Statistics Estimated Resident Population series, and regional figures are now included in all Family Violence data sets.
 
·  Household Waste Generation and Household Waste Recycling
Data for both of these indicators have been derived from the 2006-06 release from Sustainability Victoria.
 
·  Life Expectancy
Victorian mortality and population data have been recently updated by the Victorian Department of Human Services in the 2001-2005 life expectancy data and form the basis of this indicator.   
 
·  Unemployment
The 2006-07 unemployment data are derived from the Australian Government Department of Employment Education and Workplace Relations, September 2007. These figures are based on a smoothed four quarter average to minimise variability in the estimates.
