Statistics, Knowledge and Policy: Understanding Societal Change
Short Course on 3 or 4 August 2009
"We urge statistical offices, public and private organisations, and academic experts to work alongside representatives of their communities to produce high-quality, facts-based information that can be used by all of society to form a shared view of societal well-being and its evolution over time" - Istanbul Declaration, June 2007
The short course will focus on measuring the progress of societies including:
Conceptualising 'progress of societies'
Designing outcome indicators
Communicating progress using leading edge ICT
Telling a story to communicate results
The course will be coordinated by Sue West. Sue is the Co-ordinator for Community Indicators Victoria.
CIV has developed an online Geographic Information System (GIS) which is an interactive mapping and analysis tool to enable visual communication of wellbeing indicators.
The Wellbeing Map uses Instant Atlas to present wellbeing information in a geographical context, revealing spatial variations and patterns across Victoria.
